Chance to see how the stadium is coming along and what some of the views will be like

Re: Who's going to the athletics tonight?
Just come out of the Saturday session. It's a fine stadium alright. I'd say it feels better suited to athletics and will always seem like a bit of a compromise for us compared to the purpose built football grounds. Walked around the whole stadium on the middle level and all views are good but distant from pitch. Not a lot of claret and blue in evidence, just on a few of the signs. They need to do something about the mob throwing bloody great steel balls onto one end of the pitch and the queues getting towards Stratford were reminiscent of UP tube.

Silly comparing Wembley to the OS. Could never hold an athletics event there.

Why are bods using Wembley continually as an example?

Re: Who's going to the athletics tonight?
I was surprised to see the stadium looking in such good shape to hold an event. It will have been good for them to identify the issues, leaks and other faults.
The views didn't look that bad on TV even from right at the back but then Wembley is no closer when I've been there so I find it pretty acceptable.
Is the football pitch going to be bigger than the athletics field? I was under the impression it was?

That experience of nearly being on the pitch was lost but we built the new stands at the Boleyn IMO. If you still want that there is always non-league football.

Having some space and being able to see something is better than packed rows where you can't see over the people in front and get crushed by some sweaty, drunken, overweight mess next to you slagging off anyone who makes a mistake.

Really starting to think about getting a season ticket again. Hope the finished article feels more like home though.

I didn't think the athletics crowd were particularly loud. Acoustics are good though, will sound amazing when there's a game on.

I'm forever blowing bubbles.....

Getting to the station was a piece of piss. Didn't see any leaks. A great stadium, you'll all love it.

Athletics fans are known to be loud so to compare the ATMOS ain't fair.

That oddball Whetstone posted a video last night showing leaks on the concourse.

So, the roof leaks, the transport situation is awful, and people on the grassed area look like subbutteo men unless you're in the front row.

Magnificent.

At least the MATCHDAY EXPERIENCE will be good.

How does it rate for us TV patrons?

Re: Who's going to the athletics tonight?
The acoustics are great as are the big screens. The thing about the views is that you just have to forget all you know about watching West Ham intimate, touch the players, Chicken Run style. There is none of that. Sat in what will be the 1966 seats and in what will be I guess a Cat 2 seat. You could see a football game well as long as your long vision is good!
Walked to the back - row 73 in the roof. Hope you like subuteo.
As for the cat 5s - you will be in touch with God they are so high and far away.
Oh and the roof LEAKS. Steward told me "we've had a lot of problems and there's loads to be fixed".
If you think you'll miss the close atmosphere of UP you won't like it. If you want a super arena, iconic match day experience, you'll love it.

The drugs in cycling and Athletics must be really bad because the big stars with the big endorsements keep winning clean.

Makes you wonder why anyone would bother taking drugs to improve performance when the big stars with the biggest endorsements will always win.

Anyone got a comment on the acoustics, remember reading ages ago they were going to try and make it so sound reverberated around to enhance crowd noise, was it noticeable?

It's a fantastic stadium. I was about a third of the way up the upper tier and the view was very good Atmosphere was great when Bolt, Mo and Weighhtman won.

On another note, there were a lot of happy clappy types there tonight but worst of all, I seemed to be surrounded by imbeciles making that idiotic American whooping type of noise. People caught making that noise when we move in should be removed and sumarily executed..

Re: Who's going to the athletics tonight?
Just got back from there. I was in the front row, about 2 yards beyond the finishing line so cracking seats. The stadium looks great (first time I've seen it) and when there are 55,000 of us in there, we could make it one hell of an atmosphere.

I could see the 'pitch' perfectly well from the front row and the retractable seats will be a good 10-15 meters in front of where I was I reckon.

Obviously, I have no idea of how the view is in the upper reaches but I've see us from high up at Cardiff more than once and that didn't bother me - the view was still great.

The only thing that I would say is that they need to sort out how people are ushered back to the station. The stadium was about 2/3rds full tonight, yet it took ages to get back to the station, with the crowd being held back at several points to allow the station to clear. Personally, I'd do what I normally do and fuck off to a pub straight after the match.

All in all though, it's a fantastic stadium that we'd have been mad to let pass us by. Some will hate it, but let's not compare it to Upton Park - it'll never replicate the old ground. But we're moving there, so let's all get on board because we could make a great atmosphere there.
